NetApp Rebrands SteelStore As AltaVault, Boosts Cloud Connectivity, Performance

NetApp on Wednesday branded its SteelStore line of WAN acceleration data protection and migration appliances NetApp AltaVault, and refreshed the line with improved performance and capacity on a new hardware platform. The new NetApp AltaVault, which stems from NetApp’s November, 2014 acquisition of the SteelStore technology from Riverbed, keeps as its primary objective the ability to provide a high-performance, easy-to-install way to integrate customers’ existing data protection solutions to the cloud, said Phil Brotherton, vice president of NetApp’s Cloud Solutions Group.

Converged Data Appliance Startup Rubrik Raises $41M

Mere months after raising an oversubscribed $10 million round, converged data management system provider Rubrik has raised an additional $41 million in funding led by Greylock Partners. The company’s r300 appliance has also entered general availability, sold exclusively through channel partners. Enterprise storage has long been a pain point for many and is one of the biggest impediments to retuning IT for the web-scale age.

How “Open” is VMware Integrated OpenStack?
